Nick Angel (Simon Pegg) is one of the best cops in London. In fact, he is too good, and to improve the morale of his less capable colleagues, Nick is promoted but transferred to the idyllic village of Sandford. At first, things look intolerable for the new cop from the city, as his world of drug busts and apprehension of murderers is replaced by nabbing underage drinkers and chasing down missing swans. When Nick is not staking out the swan, he dutifully answers the questions about being a big city police officer from his young partner Danny Butterman (Nick Frost), and resists dessert offers from Danny's father, Chief Inspector Kenneth (Bill Nighy). Sandford looks like a crime free paradise until a string of accidental deaths occur. Nick's big city cop instincts kick in as he starts to suspect foul play. However, the major presences in Sandford like the Inspector or retail magnate Met Sergeant (Martin Freeman) refuse to believe Nick. Slowly, as Nick continues his chase, the big city cop-like-you-see-on-TV dreams of Danny start to become real, the stuff of Danny's DVD collection becomes the stuff of his life.
